Generating Real Files (docx/pptx/xlsx/pdf)
Beyond text on screen, Claude can produce real, downloadable files — Word documents, PowerPoint decks, Excel spreadsheets, PDFs — formatted and ready to use. Great when you need a deliverable, not just an answer.
What you can ask for
- Word (.docx) — reports, letters, proposals, formatted docs.
- PowerPoint (.pptx) — slide decks from an outline or notes.
- Excel (.xlsx) — spreadsheets with data, formulas, simple models.
- PDF — print-ready versions of the above.
How to get a good file
- Describe the deliverable: type, audience, length, sections, tone.
- Provide the content or source (notes, data, an outline) — or ask Claude to draft it first.
- Ask for the file ("export this as a .docx"), then iterate ("add a title page," "make the table a chart," "tighten slide 3").
Turn these notes into a 6-slide investor update deck (.pptx): traction, revenue,
roadmap, team, ask. Clean and minimal. Notes: {paste}
Tips
- Give structure. Headings/sections in your request → cleaner output.
- Provide real data for spreadsheets — and verify any computed numbers (Hallucinations); don't ship figures you haven't checked.
- Refine before exporting — it's easier to fix in chat than in the final file.
- These capabilities are powered by Skills under the hood — the same idea you can author yourself.
